IT systems electronics technician (IT-System-Elektroniker/in)
You install, configure and troubleshoot IT networks and equipment while paying close attention to electrical safety: a paid 3-year training split between a company and vocational school.
What an IT systems electronics technician does
They design, install and commission IT systems and networks, connect equipment to the power supply, advise customers and repair faults in the infrastructure.
Install
Choose hardware and software, assemble the devices, configure them and put them into service at the customer's site.
Secure
Check electrical safety and apply data protection rules and IT security measures.
Advise and repair
Explain the system's possibilities to customers, locate faults and restore normal operation.

In Germany you learn by working: this is the “dual system”. You are an employee of a company and a student at a vocational school (Berufsschule) at the same time.

Exams and qualification
The final exam (Abschlussprüfung) has two parts. Part 1, in the fourth semester, is a 90-minute written test on setting up an IT workstation. Part 2 takes place at the end of training: a company project with a presentation, then written papers. You obtain the IHK final certificate from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
You are paid during the training
Gross monthly pay during the training. These amounts are averages: they vary by region, sector and collective agreement.
