In Germany, a skilled worker (or Fachkraft) refers to a person who has a recognised vocational training or higher education qualification and the skills required for a specific trade in sectors where there is high demand. This country has been experiencing for several years a growing shortage of skilled labour in many sectors essential to its economy. To remedy this, it has set up an attractive and structured framework to welcome skilled workers from abroad. There can be two main profiles: Higher education graduates, people with qualified vocational training.
